Dental Bone Grafting for Ridge Preservation (Socket Augmentation)

For those patients undergoing dental extractions, dental bone grafting of the extraction site (socket) is often discussed.  If a dental implant is not going to be immediately placed, socket augmentation or grafting is done so that a dental implant can be placed at a later date.  This is especially done in the molar region because often times the hole or socket is larger than the implant.  The socket can be grafted with the patient’s bone (autograft), cadaver bone (allograft), cow bone (xenograft), or a combination.

Socket augmentation is a routine procedure preformed at the Houston area office of John Freeman MD, DDS, FACS.
